SEASONAL GUIDE
BY FLAIR SCENTS CO. · FRAGRANCE EDUCATION · 2026

As the air turns cooler, your fragrance can carry more weight — literally. The light, citrusy scent that felt perfect in July often feels thin against a sweater in November. Here's what to switch to, and why fall and winter are when Arabian-inspired perfumery really gets to shine.

Why Your Scent Should Change With the Season

Cold, dry air holds fragrance differently than warm, humid air — scents tend to sit closer to the skin and project less, which means lighter fragrances can disappear almost entirely in winter weather. It's also simply a mood shift: cooler months call for something that feels warm and enveloping, the olfactory equivalent of a heavy coat.

What Makes a Fragrance Feel "Cozy"

Warm base notes are the key: amber, oud, sandalwood, and musk all read as rich and enveloping rather than fresh and bright. These notes also tend to have better projection in cold, dry air than delicate florals or citrus, which is part of why they're the backbone of most fall and winter fragrances.

Our Fall & Winter Edit

Oud Mood — Smoky, resinous oud with warm amber and soft florals. As close to wearing a fireplace as fragrance gets, in the best way.
Old Money — Bergamot and saffron settling into rose, leather, and agarwood. Refined and warm without being heavy-handed.
Private Club — Woody and grounded with a musk base — a great option for anyone who wants the season's warmth without going full oud.

Try Oud Mood, Old Money, or Private Club in spray, or ease in with any of them in oil for a scent that sits close to the skin.

Layering a scarf, sweater, or coat over fragrance actually helps it last longer in cold weather — fabric traps the scent and slowly releases it throughout the day, which is part of why heavier fragrances feel so at home in fall and winter.

When to Start Wearing Them

There's no strict rule, but most people find the switch feels natural once the daytime temperature settles below 15°C and the layers start coming out. If you're not ready to fully retire your summer scent, start by wearing your warmer fragrance in the evenings and on cooler days, and let the transition happen gradually.
