Room Spray vs. Linen Spray: What's the Difference?

Home Fragrance Guide
By Flair Scents Co. · Home Fragrance

Not every bottle labeled "room spray" is safe to spritz on your sheets. The two aren't automatically the same product — and knowing the difference matters if you're about to spray it on fabric you care about.

The Real Difference

A room spray is formulated to be misted into the air — it's built for ambient scent, not fabric contact. Some formulas can leave a residue or mark on delicate or light-coloured textiles if sprayed directly and up close.

A linen spray is formulated with fabric contact in mind — meant to be lightly misted onto sheets, curtains, or clothing without leaving a mark, on top of scenting the room around it.

Our sprays are formulated to do both — which is why every bottle is labelled Room & Linen Spray. The catch: "formulated for fabric" still isn't the same as "guaranteed safe on every fabric." Delicate, dry-clean-only, or unusually light-coloured textiles can still react differently, which is exactly why a patch test matters.

📌 Always patch test first: spray a small hidden area — the underside of a hem or a corner of a pillowcase — and let it dry before spraying anything visible. It takes thirty seconds and it's the difference between a lightly scented pillow and a water mark you can't explain to a guest.

How to Tell What You're Holding

Check the label or product page for explicit linen or fabric guidance. If it only says "air freshener" or "room mist" with no mention of fabric use, treat it as air-only until you know otherwise. If it says "room & linen" like ours does, it's built for both — just always with a patch test first on anything you'd be upset to stain.

For the exact steps we recommend for our own sprays, see our full how-to-use guide.
